The forthcoming Los Angeles Auto Show will mark the debut of Honda’s Personal-Neo Urban Transport (P-NUT) concept, the company has revealed.Designed at Honda R&D Americas’ advanced design studio in Southern California, the P-NUT is a futuristic design study for an ultra-compact, aggressively designed coupe, according to the Japanese automaker.
Dave Marek’s team at Honda’s advanced design studio is credited with North American-specific models like the Pilot, Ridgeline and Element as well as the FC Sport concept (pictured) revealed at last year’s LA Auto Show.
We’ll bring you additional information and photos of the P-NUT concept once they become available.
A Honda concept vehicle on display at the L.A. show, the Personal-Neo Urban Transport vehicle is a futuristic ultra-compact, aggressively designed coupe, which borrows elements from small cars and, gulp, motorcycles. The Transport features three seats, with individual space akin to what you'd find in a mid-sized sedan. But it is classified as an ultra compact and and its rear-wheel-drive layout is designed to accommodate a variety of power trains including gasoline, hybrid-electric or battery electric.
The new Concept of Honda P-NUT, which means: Personal Neo Urban Transport, was designed for a maximum convenience in the tight urban settings. The Honda P-NUT, have features an exterior sleek design, which allows a spacious and simultaneously an open interior with an excellent visibility. Two rear seats, makes generous legroom and also a battery-electric powertrain or a hybrid gasoline-electric powertrain.
The exterior styling is intended to capture a future direction for premium sophistication while balancing the need for maximum interior space and an aerodynamic appearance. The interior layout, in conjunction with the rear powertrain design, contributes prominently to the exterior’s overall shape.
The layout of the interior space, with its center driving position flanked by two rear seats, provides generous legroom for all occupants, roughly the equivalent of a mid-sized sedan in a vehicle that has an exterior footprint similar to a micro car. Interior functionality is increased by rear seating areas that fold up and out of the way to increase storage capacity. The windshield serves as a heads-up display for the navigation system and the back-up camera.
The modular rear engine bay, depicted on the exterior by blue composite material, is designed to accommodate a wide variety of potential propulsion technologies including a conventional small displacement internal combustion engine, a hybrid gasoline-electric powertrain, or a battery-electric powertrain.
